    ... these villages have become a very popular tourist area, and no wonder, the houses are snuggled into an idyllic valley, surrounded by forests and mountains. Really beautiful.
    Most of the houses had very nice gardens, not very large, but the ones we saw had a little water feature, sometimes a very small bridge. Not many flowers out although I did see some buds on trees and a couple of green shoots.

It is In ruins but the site is beautiful, with running streams and ponds. This is a major viewing place for cherry blossom but the cherry blossom was finished. We were just returning to the mainland when the heavens opened, so we scurried into a cafe for a cuppa, while the rain fell down.     ... out the women's bath. After breakfast we took a drive to Ainu, a city in the west of the prefecture, were we visited Tsuruga-Jo. This is a reconstructed castle that was nearly destroyed in the civil war in 1832. The castle is now a museum and tells the story of the people who lived there, including a young woman who had the Samurai spirit and cut her pair short to join the fighting when the castle was besieged by the emperor's army.
