... here defines these hard asses its the memorial at the ruins. There's a crypt with a bullet proof, see-through window. It contains many skulls. All the skulls are bullet ridden. They are the remains of the brave Cretan fisherman that moved Kiwi soldiers off to safety when the Germans and Italians took Crete in 1941 (?). They were all executed. These people are as stubborn, fearless and as feisty as the goats they eat. PS. They call it goat not lamb on the ...

The following day we will be in Israel. It will be Happy Hour ...

On Katherine's to do list from her 1976 trip to Europe after university was the hike down the Samaria Gorge. At 16 km, it is the longest gorge in Europe. It was a bridge too far then but not this time, 40 years later. This time we were staying in Hania which is the closest city to the Gorge. We booked a round trip bus from our hotel. Although the pickup time was earlier than a regular bus we were guaranteed ...

Day 1 was a driving and site seeing day. We arrived in Chania in mid afternoon which gave us enough time to get our bearings and spend most of the daylight hours around the lighthouse. Bob must have 500 pictures of this area including some fabulous sunset pictures. He has so many that when we found a tasteful tee shirt of Chania with an outline of the lighthouse I made him buy it! The official name of the lighthouse seems to be the ...
