... ahead in the guidebook sometimes. After 4 months on the road, I don't always get to it. We couldn't decide on our next city or even country and planned to head to Albania. But after we talked to the guys at the hostel in Kotor, they recommended this mountain village. It's on the train line and should be beautiful this time of year if they get a blanket of snow.

... monument to the partisan fighters of World War II, who battled to evict the fascists from Yugoslavia. Another spectacular sunny and warm today – the Balkans heat wave continues. It feels more like summer than mid-fall.

After visiting the monument, I hiked further uphill in Gorica Hill Park for a panorama of the city center, then hiked around the hilltop for a view of northern Podgorica. I excited the park at 1:45 after my urban hike. ...

... the kanun. If two families had some disagreement and someone was killed in the heat of the dispute, the other family had to hide in the kulla for decades if they wanted to stay alive. During the decades of communism Enver Hoxha effectively oppressed this old tradition but it had some sort of renaissance in the chaotic years of transition to democracy. Although the custom of blood feuds is already history in Theth, ironically, this village has one of the last such towers ...
