Simonandalison stayed here on Jan 26, 2011 during their trip titled: Simonandalison's Great Adventure.
all night long. Really. All night long we were treated to unencumbered views of Arenal volcano erupting. For those of you who have never been close to an erupting volcano, it goes something like this.
1. If you are watching it, a big puff of gray black ash shoots into the air from the cone. Trembling of the ground may accompany this.
Sunday morning we caught the 10:45 bus to La Fortuna. It's a beautiful winding drive through small villages and past fields of cabbage, and other various veggies. I had already scoped out a good place for lunch in la Fortuna - one of the few with fresh squeezed juices instead of canned - and we had a great lunch there. I was so proud of Skyler for …
... again! It was pretty much a full body work out adhering to commands from the guide such as “back paddle, back paddle” “left forward, right back paddle”… my left and rights were definitely tested at this point haha.
After every decent rapid we would give a paddle high five and shout 'Pura Vidaaaa’ love it. We were able to get out of the raft and swim during the calm parts of the river before ...
... down the embankment to wade through the water. Ben took a picture as a visual aid. We saw one construction vehicle in the middle of a stream, seeming to fill a water tank. It's possible the trucks and machines that are too big/heavy for the small bridges drive through the water; we're simply glad we don't have to. So far at least.
We stopped at a highly-rated pizza place before heading off to hike the volcano. I hadn't expected lunch to be the adventure ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Linda Vista Del Norte La Fortuna
Great view,Great advice
We recently stayed at the Linda Vista for 2 nights. The location is a little remote-1/2 hour drive on an unpaved road, off the main road from La Fortuna, but definitely worth it.The view of the volcano and lake along with the surroundind countryside is awesome. The hotel is clean,we had a slight problem that was taken care of immediately, breakfast is good(included) and lunch was good. The day receptionist at the front desk,Brian, was real helpful,a nice guy who made some suggestions for us and each one worked out real well, his information about the area is priceless!Overall we had a very good experience at the Linda Vista.
I reserved the hotel by Email. After some cordial emails sent by the management, I took the decision to reserve 3 nights.
We stayed in a junior suite, one of the newer rooms at Linda Vista. It was quite nice, clean, and comfortable, with an outstanding view of the volcano (although it was shrouded in clouds the 48 hours we were there, except for an admittedly stunning 10-minute break in the clouds one night).
We stayed two (sleepless) nights at Linda Vista Del Norte. Although the location is great for viewing the Arenal volcano, the beds were the most uncomfortable I've encountered in many recent travels. Also, loose roofing tin rattled and banged all night in the wind.
After reading that only a few hotels in the area have views of the lava side of the volcano, we chose Linda Vista despite it's distance from town. This is not the spot for nightlife or a quick jaunt into town, but I assume that if you are coming to Arenal you want to see it erupt, and you have to be on the Lava side (not the Fortuna side). The view from the hotel is incredible, and staying here allows you to view the volcano from the comfort of your room all day and all night. When we arrived the top of the mountain was in clouds but by midnight it was clear and we witnessed some beautiful lava flows from our bed in the middle of the night. The restaurant is good, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the scenery is spectacular. Rooms are large and clean but pretty basic. This is not a luxurious place, but the best for nature lovers who will enjoy the mountain, lake, garden, farm and rainforest views all around them. And lots of birds. If you have young kids you must go to the Arenal Hanging Bridges.
Lovely little jewel A+
All previous reviews have been bang on with this hotel, here are a few of our notes.
We booked 2 rooms, the honeymoon suite at $80US (views of lake and volcano) and a standard room for SIL $35US (views of volcano and forest). Each view was unique and awesome.
Besides the Arenal Observatory Lodge, this must be the next best place with a lava flow view, we were lucky we got to see quite a bit in the evening and were treated to a few good bangs early in the morning, as well as a fabulous breakfast on the terrace.
Hotel Linda Vista del Norte
We stayed 2 nights at the Hotel Linda Vista del Norte; we had one of the junior suites (for 4 people). We arrived after dark in a rainstorm, so finding the hotel was a little tricky...but WORTH IT! The driving directions I received from the staff were excellent. We awoke the next morning to sunshine, a stunning view of the volcano, and hummingbirds outside our window. We ate both delicious breakfasts on the veranda outside the restaurant which has a view of Lake Arenal and the volcano. We could see lava flows at night and hear the steam escaping from the volcano. The staff was most helpful. Although the hotel is a bit out of the way (from the town of LaFortuna), the drive was well worth it.
Great views and ambience
Agree with previous review, a special place. Stayed May 6-7 2005 in "honeymoon suite" had two porches, one view of Arenal and other looked over lake. Would say view is a 5 and room about a 3+ (nothing extra special but comfortable, clean, small refridge), the Jr Suites looked nice as well. We were given a 10% discount paying cash. The food was good, the restaurant has same wonderful views, the staff helpful and really nice. There is a small private reserve near by you can hike to, lots of birds and we saw/heard howler monkeys. We slept through the eruptions (bummer) but others saw them. Our friends stayed at Trabacon, and agree our place had better ambience/view.
Spectacular View, Immaculate Accomodations
Stayed here April 7, 2005. Winding along the 8km dirt road that's an offshoot from the main road near Tabacon hot springs and other hotels is well worth it for this gem of a hotel. There is a perfect view of the Arenal Volcano (we saw the lava flowing at night!) and the stunning Lake Arenal. It is seriously perfectly situated for all of the gorgeous scenery. Hiking trails right on the property too. Dining room/restaurant also offers amazing views and very decent food (yummy tilapia for dinner). Room was immaculate and very comfortable; our junior suite had a porch that looked directly out to the landscape. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
