... in and the lines were massive! We headed out of the square on a winding journey through narrow streets which led to the grand canal. It was a pretty interesting tour, even if the ladies voice was hard to understand in the noise of Venice. She pointed out a good pizza and gelato place and we all headed back for a huge slice of pizza after the tour was over. We then had about 4 hours to ...

Today is my last day in Venice and I have had the time of my life, visiting all the sites that Venice has to offer the world. We went to a lace demonstration in a lace school which is one of the few left in venice. The lady told us there used to be about 6000 lace makers in Venice but now there is only about 500. We got shown some pieces ...

    Venice — Day 2

The sky is still grey this morning, but at least there is no rain, and it stays dry for the rest of the day. We start with a very nice breakfast in the surprisingly roomy living/dining area of our B&B — I had always imagined that the restriction on land space in Venice would mean everybody lived in cramped quarters, but that's not a problem here. However I suspect this fourth-floor apartment is a double, occupying the whole top floor, and we have a view on three sides in this ...
