      The hotel where we are stayIng is right next door to the funicular and a ferry jetty which services the series of islands on the lake. We managed to beat off the private water taxi touters, one who got a little snotty (too bad) and made our way along that most beautiful promenade to the main terminal in town.

      The complimentary breakfast was even more spartan than the previous hotel and the coffee a minor improvement but still lacking. You can buy packaged croissants in the supermarket - the Rome BB had loads and they are a tragic kind of floppy, soggy unappetising offering, yet at the same time dry.       We arrived in Como after a long drive from Bassano via Verona and the Hertz office to replace, yet again, the GPS. The Neverlost might be the case on the odd occasion that it works, but without it getting lost is actually quite simple.       We arrived in this beautiful city at dusk so we weren't able to get the most out of it. Stayed there only for one hour and we spent that time in Parco Civico capturing the flickering lights of the city surrounded by mountains. The view from the shores of Lake Lugano was fascinating. It's truly a must-visit city and I'd love to go back and see it in broad daylight. ...
