    ... be good to leave Venice in drier conditions that we arrived in. Our train leaves at 9.20 so we have plenty of time to navigate our way back to the train station. We have been travelling 2nd class and it really is very comfortable. The journey between Venice and Rome on the Frecciaargento (silver train, the red ones are the fastest) takes about 3 and a half hours and the distance is about 530 kms.     After Mimi arrived at Heathrow, met there by Linda Megan & Connor, drove to Windsor castle, took walking tour of outside grounds & inside of castle. Then drove to Celtic manor resort hotel, in Cardiff, & checked in. Had connecting rooms --- finally. Lovely place! Then drove to hospital to see Sandra. Ray met us there. Visited until 8:00 p.m. Went to Thorne house to pick up Linda's other bags, then back to hotel. Mimi fading fast! Wonderful 1st day! --- July ...

    ... cheap wine from Florence before we left so we could drink some more. Instead of being merry, turns out that Winnie can't open her suitcase! We tried to reset the numbers and it didn't work. We also tried different combinations of what the numbers was supposed to be. In the end, we couldn't open it. At least we had some wine to calm us down? ha ha

    We still wanted to take in the day so we walked to the Rialto Bridge and took some amazing sunset ...

    ... about showing off. But that was only the start, I walked upstairs via "The Golden Staircase" so named because its ceiling had hundreds of small paintings surrounded by gold embossed frames. Upstairs were the rooms of the various councils which reigned over Venice until 1797, when Napoleon took over the place. The council rooms contained massive oil paintings on the walls and the ceiling. Seriously, what is it with Italians and ceilings?
