    Athens to Thira

... blah, very dry and dusty, almost no greenery at all although the ocean view as you climb is quite beautiful. Along the winding road to Thira, we see what seems like dozens of unfinished houses, just shells actually, abandoned and left as is due to the financial crash, and in a strange way while they were to be beautiful new homes, they resemble old relics from centuries ago. Our bus arrived in to the Thira bus station, along with another 6 or so with more ...

... heavenly. After walking through a few stores, we decided to find a spot in town for the sunset as people usually set up camp early.

The sunset in Oia was beautiful beyond words. There were hundreds of people set up around the town to watch the sun go down - I cant even imagine the mass amounts of people during the warmer months with so many more tourists. For some reason, as soon as the sun was below the horizon (the colours were still beautiful) everyone left and ...

... The so called flat to slight incline wasn't as we thought as there was a decent mountain climb but it was so worth it, the views were incredible! The landscape itself is just as amazing, layers of different volcanic periods. We finally wandered into Oia after a good 2 1/2hrs of walking, to find not much open or if it was it was they wanted way to much for it, but we managed to find a little shop and grabbed some nice cold drinks and sat at a cute little park under ...

... the town, past innumerable shops and restaurants, and even inside one of the island's famous domed churches (not the iconic blue domed one, though). It was decorated beautifully inside, the ceiling and walls painted with gold paint and other rich colours. After much debate and consultation with TripAdvisor (thanks to our Greek SIM card!), we selected a restaurant. The food - when we eventually got it - was great, but there seemed to ...

Santorini and Atlantis possibly in its waters

... in the shore of Fira. This is a Cycladic island and the cliff which the bus is driving up to Oiya is very steep. After a short winding ride to the top of the cliff, we are on our way to Oiya. Oiya (pronounced i-ya)is every bit of the Santorini you see in travel magazines but here we are in the wee morning, and we are the only ones here. Have to give it kudos to our tour company who makes sure we are pampered in ...
