... tour of the Hotel Dieu. This iwas a hospital built in 1452 which was created for the poor but also the nobility. The recreation of the rooms were lifelike. The hospital roof was built from colored tiles set in a pattern. This style was taken from the Flemish influence in this area.

We disembarked in Oistreham and went through passport control at 08:00 am.

We set Chloe (our sat nav) to take us the toll free route to Montmerle sur Soane! We stop for a snack at 10:00 ish but fail to find a cafe so settle for some drinks and nibbles from a local supermarket. Later we do find a cafe for lunch! The first half of the journey is through ...

Going Solo

... It was halal food and the stews were so good. One was lamb with lentils and the other chicken with olives, potatoes and carrots. So nice. I'm glad we found this place because its convenient and great winter food for my wife.

Nothing interesting otherwise except I noticed lots of police and more cameras whilst driving. I never really noticed them before, so I think its likely I probably have a bunch of speeding fines waiting for me...oh well.

... as what had gone before. Then, surprisingly, there was even more climbing before the road finally descended to the valley floor, at which point going upriver at 20kph seemed positively swift. Unfortunately it was not to last: as the road crossed the river and pulled away from its banks, the pitch increased and the sun came out as well, making it a long slog to our hotel ...

... Fleurie overlooking the hillside, we parked up and took a walk into town. Well, except himself couldn't find the rucksack – working backwards it was a hundred or so kms back in the Chateau de Chassagne Montrachet! A phone call or two, and it will be returned when we get back to UK. Hmm, he now needs more soap and another towel!

Lovely walk into the village, very small, but perfectly formed with all the necessary – a couple of restaurants, cheese ...
