... caught a local train to Chamonix proper and checked back into the Grand Hotel des Alps, our original starting point, where we were repatriated with our luggage. The rest of the day was spent relaxing in the hotel and waking the busy streets of Chamonix. Checkout tomorrow and we start our journey to Paris via a B&B in ...

... our way to le Peuty, passing a heard of cows and our first goats. As the day was supposed to be a pleasant hike (14km, 2500ft) and feeling bad about missing the Fenetre d'Arpette the day before, we bumped into some fellow travellers who said they were heading to the col de Balme as well but rather were going via the Chalet de glacier. That got in MY EYE!!” …..We loved the divers…Avaia was the entertainment for the row behind us – based on their tan (deeeep) and how much they found Avaia amusing (A LOT), I figured they lived at the Aquaparc and had seen the show a few times already. The Aquaparc is situated just across the street from the local ...

... with altitude sickness which was a very smart decision. No point going higher, if you won't enjoy it (especially at this price!).

Simon, Steffie, Louiselle and I continued up to the upper station at Aiguille du Midi, which at 3777m is another 1450m higher. The problem is that such a quick ascent over 3500m can bring on altitude sickness pretty quickly. The highest I've been previously was 3000m when I climbed Mt Rundle so I didn't experience it. We got out of the cable car ...
