Mosaics and Lions in Delos

... are still many columns as well as some interesting mosaics. Even with what remains, there is enough to get a good idea of what the island would have been like in its heyday. The best know sculptures on the island are a row of lions.

We anchored within the Bay of Delos and returned in the afternoon for lunch aboard. After we finished exploring the island, we boarded the yacht and returned to Mykonos for the evening. We went to shore and found a ...

A few days in Mykonos

It’s a little cool outside for a party island that is famous for its nude beaches and all-night dance clubs. This is the first time that I wished we were visiting Greece during the tourist season since the town almost feels empty and the beaches deserted.

This is ...

Cruising and coughing

... tomorrow. The awesome thing is that tomorrow is the official torch lighting ceremony in Olympia for the winter games in Canada. I have no idea if I'll be able to get to see it but I'm going to try to at least experience some part of it. You don't often get chances like that in life. For every Olympic games since way back to the original games, the torch is lit in this same stadium. And now, of course, that flame gets passed from torch to torch to torch all around the ...

our very first cruise

... bed. The cabin staff are Filipinos and Indonesians with the restaurant staff being mostly the latter, so I was able to chat with them in their native tongue, much to their surprise.
There was a mandatory lifeboat drill just before departure and we sailed out of Piraeus harbour at five in the afternoon.
Our first meal in the main dining room (La Fontein) was excellent and the dining room is ...

My Big Fat Greek Visit !

... pool deck and enjoy the warmth and sun that Mykonos was offering. This was also the location of the Movie Under the Stars. And wouldn't you know it, the movie playing was "Mama Mia"! We felt like running to the edge and jumping overboard. Not like we don't like the movie. O.K.! We admit, we don't the like the movie! We were so grateful that we watched it for 'free' on satelite at our friend's Brenda-Lyn and ...

Mykonos

Took the hydroplane from Santorini to Mykonos. Stayed right on the beach and the cruise ships docked right down the beach. Island topography not as dramatic as Santorini but very nice. Surprised how dry and little vegetation on both islands. Got my whole body in the Mediterranean not just my feet (no pictures of that !!)

Setting sail and Mykonos

... watching the lights of Athens fade into the distance. So we found at the captain's orientation this AM that last week, out of 5 ports, they only made one on schedule because of the weather. We well know as it was the same gale force wind that greeted us as we left the airplane. This week the weather is wonderful. To really enjoy Mykonos, I think you have to be ready to party hardy with a bunch of 20 ...

Wannabe jet-setters: trendy, fun, and expensive

... again. The sailing today was very rough, with wind up to 30 knots. It was awesome, and everyone on deck was drenched by the end of the day. Again, our skipper didn't know the ropes very well....so it was hectic and slightly nerve wracking. He admitted that he was actually worried about how to dock the boat in Mykonos, which is apparently very tricky. For some reason he chose Andy to confide in, and took him aside to explain how he wanted to dock the boat....Andy kind ...

Cruising the Greek Islands

How on Earth did I get to be so lucky?

My family and I went on a cruise of the Greek Islands. We ate a lot, got sea sick once, soaked up the sun, and absorbed the classically beautiful white and blue colours on the islands. There weren't very much ship activities that my sister and I were interested in but Allyson and I did win a bingo game! Mykonos was by far our favorite island because of its beauty.
