... the side of the mountain as well as some cows wearing their own KOM jerseys.

After the rest it was time for an 8 mile decent back to the town of St Jean de Maurienne. This was a very technical decent with very twisty roads and times of uneven pavement. The pros often go 50-60 MPH down these descents. They are crazy!

When we reached the town it was time to go back up the mountain to our viewing area. We had about an eight-mile climb left. The support vans were ...

... for our ice bath but it was late and we still needed to have our evening meeting and eat dinner. Each night we would meet for about 15-20 minutes. Peter Thompson, the owner of the tour group, would review the next day’s itinerary and review the climbs for the following day. When discussing climbs Peter often refers to a climb as, “a wee bump” (said in a thick Scottish accent). We have learned that what Peter thinks is a “wee bump” usually means at ...

On our way home the long awaited thunderstorm hit. It was raining very heavily. We still threw on our swimsuits to do our Alps ice bath. Then it was off to dinner. We enjoyed some wine, talked about the huge ride and were excited for our first live viewing of the Tour de ...

... day with 7,200 feet of climbing. Overall
I feel pretty good on the rides. In Austin Rich, Ray and I had been riding at a
much harder intensity and climbing much steeper hills. We don’t have the length
by any means but so far it seems to have paid off. I think tomorrow will be a
test as we are climbing the mighty Col de Galibier.

I wish I could post pictures but the Wi-Fi is extremely
slow. I will save all my pics and add them in at a later time.

Up early this morning, truth is I woke at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep. I need to be down at St Jean du Maurienne for the start of the Etape by 6:45am and I have a 30min drive to get there from my base at Valmeinier.

Here's the breakfast plan, make a cup of coffee tip it into a drink bottle, grab some eats for breakfast (madeleines, banana, drinking yogurt plus 2 stale "pain au chocolates" I pinched from the hotel ...
