I really don't even know how to describe what we saw and did today. We caught a train to Caen and then rented a car, driving up the coast of Normandy to follow Grandpa DeAngelis's WWII path. We stopped first at Omaha Beach, despite the fact that grandpa wasn't there, because of the historical and emotional significance. Bon essayons donc de faire un petit text français. Back in 2003 Ken & I participated in a RV tour of Europe. We visited Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium and France during that three week trip. As part of that trip we took a bus tour of the Normandy invasion beaches. It was a somber day and one that we have not forgotten.

... volume would not disturb anyone else, but it seems to be out respect for the dead that no one speaks; it is quiet to let them rest. The cemetery sits only yards from the beach where these men lost their lives. It seems almost poetic. War and loss are the same throughout time. It doesn't matter the reason for the conflict or the loss of life; the result is the same. In the end, we will always be standing in a field of the dead, overlooking the ocean.
