A half hour journey from the site took us to the base of Puy de Dome, NW of Clermont-Ferrand, where you arrive at the car park, visitor centre and station. Since May 2012 visitors may only access the peak via an electric rack railway - a very modern affair - which has been laid on the route ...

... phone calls, found a dentist and tooth duly repaired. Then to the Post Office, supposedly to collect 2 parcels from Aus., of Boomer spares. No such luck! No parcels! Helpful staff tried lots of options, then "come back tomorrow" and "fill out a complaint form"!!!! Lunch, then looked at the "black" Gothic cathedral of Notre Dame, made of local volcanic rock. Closed for lunch, so could not look inside. Wandered the streets of the Old Town. ...
