Driving across France - day 1

... nice.

Andy told us all about how a guy in the town we're staying at invented elastic, and it had something to do with sheep’s innards, cast-offs, and a small child – I think. The place we stayed at used to be a pig farm, but it had a concrete leaping stag as an emblem. I broke their satellite decoder. It was a very strange night.

This morning we decided to pack the car and go after lunch so I could do the washing. This is when I checked out and was told we stayed one day too long. Anyway we made our way across the south of France then we turn right to the centre to head north ...

... be unable to see it! The next day was Sunday and John spent a futile morning searching for an open supermarket to buy a few basics, but they were all closed - they certainly observe the Sabbath here more than anywhere else we've been so far! Luckily he found a small Spar open - must be owned by heathens. After lunch we visited one of the extinct ...

... opportunity to make our lunch which usually consisted of a baguette filled with pate, cheese and or meat. We would stop along the way some where for lunch in a park or a Chateau. The cruising along the canals was incredible especially going through the locks. One part took us over one of the longest viaduct in Europe at a place called Briare where we stayed for the night. The first couple of days was heavy going but my knees and legs settled down that ...

... for camping. The town was beautiful and the road to the camp site took us up steep hills with ever changing views, but eventually we were too far out and too high up (it was windy and cold), so we gave up the hunt. Returning down the mountain we continued through Ambert and finally settled on Municipal Camping Le Metz at Arlanc. The site is less manicured than the previous night, but the facilities in the main block are ...

Clermont: The Beginning

... like it. So we met up with some friends at the club that we had met in Vichy, and been hanging out with since we got here. Kate, Chelsea and I decided to go back to their house to drink some more around 4 am. We just sat there chilled, and drank some more. Its funny to have conversations with them since they know little English and we know little French. We finally passed out around 8am. By noon everyone was up and ready to go. We headed back to Mac Do's for some lunch...I ...

Clermont-ferrand Day 8

Woke up at 8 and left for Maison De La Culture without breakfast. Attended Yoon Hang's Q&A 'Expresso' session at 10am. The sessions were running late as the first french one took nearly half an hour. Mine was ok- not stellar but not bad. The 2 french forum heads said some nice things like it was seductive, very surprising and well done. Then we went to eat at Casino Cafeteria across the street with Daniel. And after ...

Clermont-ferrand Day 7

Went to Old Town by bus B. Walked around. Quaint town. Bought some Michelin merchandise as Clermont-Ferrand is the global HQ for the Tyre company. Ate at Pascal Cafe. Then went for our final screening at 4pm at Couteau (the biggest theatre-about 1,400). Attendance was good-packed. Response was better than I expected as many were not that young to appreciate my short. We ...

From 4:20-5pm, I was at Videotheque to check out Adults Only, The jap audtion, Tyger, Film Noir, Deviation etc. Then we went back to reception-met Zita and Carlos. Zita suggested we go to the french filmmakers cocktail at Mercure. We did but didn't mingle as we know noone there. Had a nice talk with Zita-actually more than ...
