    ... as we learnt from a local farmer how truffles are farmed including watching the dog locate and dig them out from the ground. Then we went into the farmers house basement for a tasting of truffle buttered on toast. Locally produced wine and apple juice was provided and finally a small cup of saffron infused custard.     Alarm at 03.45 seems a rather uncivilised time to start a relaxing holiday but one of the crosses we have to bear!     ... the war. We opted for a self-guided "owl" walk which was very well sign-posted with signs along the footpaths and numbered owl plaques at each of the highlights. This was an excellent introduction to the city and we were able to follow up the walk with a deeper exploration of museums and shops, many of which were stocked with exotic flavoured mustards.
