... is riding harder than other days. The overall winner has to be consistent which means racing hard everyday.
As we were climbing up the last portion of the Col De Mollard there were quite a few fans on the side of the road. Everyone is super friendly and cheer you on. They also do a double take as they see my huge bike frame and a big German climbing the mountain:)
We took a little break at the top of the Mollard. I got some great pictures of a huge KOM banner ...
Today we awoke early again to get ready for our ride. This was going to be the first day for us to watch the Tour de France live. As usual we were a bit stiff and sore but there is no time to ease into the morning. We had to eat our breakfast quickly and get dressed and ready to go. Rich and I joke that we feel like we are at cycling camp. We have to get up early, eat quickly, ride all day, get home late, eat dinner, go to bed then repeat. It has been great ...
... by the altitude, only tired from a long day of climbing.
After eating some lunch it was time to head back down the way we came, fortunately the majority of this was down hill. We stopped at the little restaurant to use the facilities. The French do not like you using their bathrooms so Ray, Rich and I ordered cokes and a nutella crepe. After ordering we then realized the bathroom was out of order!
We stayed at the restaurant a little too long ...
... a little tricky.
We finally made it back to the hotel finishing the ride at
102km (63 miles). Our immediate focus, cool off! We threw on our swim suites
and walked down to the river. Here we took an Alps ice bath by sitting waist
deep in the water for a good 5 minutes. It was very cold but hopefully it will
help with recovery tomorrow.
After a big dinner it was back to the room to relax a bit
and get to bed. Tomorrow is ...
... Les Bains....devour the lot on the drive down.
Anyway, I got to the start line on time - dead straight forward, I found my group easily Unfortunately Chris and I were in different start groups I was in group 3 and Chris was in group 12 with a 1hr start difference. A beautiful warm morning, no sign of any clouds or rain....that's better than last year.
They let my group go at 7:30am, off we go, 3kms down the ...
