Our home this week is just outside of the city centre of Lugano only about 30 minutes drive from Lake Como. Switzerland was a little confusing to begin with, they are not part of the EU, they have their own currency, they have their own power plugs, everyone here speaks Italian, and if they don't speak that, they speak German, and if they don't speak that they speak some other lingo, but fortunately they seem to have a reasonably handle on English too. Pottered about the little town of Pella near to where we are staying. Sat on wooden bench on quayside scoffing a gelato each like oldies do apparently. Delightful. Have now planned next step over the Simplon pass to stay in a small hotel in Chamonix, hoping to see Mont Blanc before the weather closes in. From there working our way back to the channel coast over 4-5 days. All fine and jalopy holding up so far - touch wood. Love to you all again. ...

... waiting until we'd gone into town and his accomplice was tipping him off just down the road. Ended up going back twice and actually photographing one of them! All was fine. Going to try harder than last attempt in Predore to get the ferry times right tomorrow to explore the lake. Here until Mon then probably crossing back into Switzerland and France over the Simplon Pass. Love to all. ...

... depicting St Gulius ridding the island of snakes and dragons before building the church in the 4th century. The church was later rebuilt and expanded in the 12th century. Nowadays it is home to 65 cloistered nuns who only come out once a year to celebrate the work of St Gulius. This was when Gilberto and his friends bought Guilio the sheep this year, and how Guilio got his name! After walking around the island we sit in the sun waiting for the boat to come back. I ...
