... baby on the way. We stopped at a taverna by an amazing beach. The food was very average, the beer was good, the water looked several shades of turquoise & quite choppy, the sand was golden and Lance got a rusty nail through his foot. Luckily his tetanus is all up to date. The beach was located close to the islands airport. The planes were coming in to land what seemed like every couple of minutes. ... a trip to the east coast and another night in Heraklion. But in truth I'm pretty relieved to be heading back. Crete has been a blast, but I'm looking forward to some downtime.

... He didn't join her due to some bad hips.

Clad in the best hiking gear: backpack, poles, pants, shoes, hat. She said she's from the Czech Republic (lot of Czechs around: I met a very nice Czech couple at dinner last night). She guessed I was American: "Yeah, you can probably tell because I'm stupid, hiking Mt Ida with no supplies and in boat shoes" She laughed. "Maybe not stupid. More like very brave." Gosh she was cute.
