Finally some sunshine, well at least a peek through the clouds every now and then. Ready to ride at 5.30am and the night clerk forgot to leave the key out for the shed. Another late start then I'm off to climb Col du Mollard.
Fantastic climb this one fairly long and through forest on the lower slopes and wildflowers above the cloud line. I was a little lost for a while just a little, stupid Garmin! But soon was back on track.
... reasonable gradient as it left St Michel behind.
The descents were frightening and bloody cold, especially from the top of Col de Beau Plan with visibility at about five metres above 1000m. It was a bit of a shock when a deer darted out in front of me. I had my full winter gear on and it was barely enough.
We are off for dinner soon in St Michel then tomorrow two TDF climbs are on the agenda.
... between my legs I returned to Annecy to pack up and make our way to the Maurienne Valley and the heart of the big Alps climbs.
To rub salt into my wounded ego the SD card in the camera played up so I lost all my pics of the short 50km ride today. Oh well re-format and away we go again.
We visited Albertville, sight of the 1992 winter Olympics and St Jean de Maurienne on our way to St Michel de Maurienne where we will base ourselves for the next week.

... the car to see the local sites, but first we had to gas up...or rather diesel up. we got to an Agip station but couldn't find diesel, which seemed odd. They had petrol, another pump called gazole, and something else called diesel-supreme which was outrageously priced and therefore couldn't be diesel. Following our short stop off at Bardonecchia, we crossed the Border into France via the unreasonably priced Mont Blanc tunnel, it only cost €57 to get through, €57, FIVE SEVEN!!
We arrived after climbing to in excess of 4000 ft at the village/town of Valloire, its a very nice village that thrives during the Ski season and relies on Cycling (Road and Mountain) through the summer.
