    ... at the Tour de Jeanne D'Arc which turned out to be a First World War memorial, then pointed the car north for the drive to Calais. Stopped a couple of times for a break and got to Calais around 5:30. A quick purchase of wine from Majestic, then off to check in at the hotel. La Bonne Auberge at Brêmes, is basic and clean.     We have plenty of time, so, a leisurely drive to Dover.
    It is motorway almost all the way, M11, M25, M2.

    It was a beautiful clear morning, perfect for a hike to the Dover Patrol Obelisk on the hill above the campground.     ... doing a roaring trade. Went into a bar where people were eating their takeaways from the chip van and asked for a cidre and 2 glasses of some watery looking stuff was served. Said I'd asked for cidre but seems he had heard citron, also said with attitude that I had said oui, but obviously I had heard cidre!
