Day 7
This was a good day. i did very little. The breakfast in the hotel was fantastic. Eat as much as you want and drink as much as you want. AS such i got down there at 9ish and didn't leave till about 11. I had a book, i wasn't eating for the whole two hours!
I had a quick look round poitiers, i.e. i went to the tourist office and decided i would be active tomorrow. therefore day 7 was spent reading and watching TV ...
All aboard for Bordeaux
... bank there is a mirror pool which is a large area flooded about 2 cm deep in which the beautiful facades of the Bourse and St Michael's church are reflected, in summer time it is more usual to see children splashing about keeping cool.
We walk through the old town stopping for Maryse to buy us all bags of cannalles which are a local delicacy, cakes made from the egg yolks which remain after the whites have been used ...
I do like to be beside the seaside!
... AD. It was an important church on the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela. There were later additions but the building and surrounding area were flooded and buried in sand and not rediscovered until the 1800s when it was renovated. It is a lovely church,but there is little information inside and none in English.
Then onto the shuttle and back on board for lunch and the almost compulsory afternoon nap.
And a great evening meal follows and yes, another early ...
Trip to Blaye
... inside where they had made the garrison buildings into bars restaurants and even a hotel ! The municipal campsite for the village was also inside the fortress walls, quite spooky at night I would imagine. Had a lovely day and made our way back to organise things for our departure tomorrow........off to the med ...
Lovely site
After being dissappointed with the campsite we planned on staying we made our way a bit further down the coast to this small village. The site is right in the middle of farmland really quiet and not many pitches taken so we have the site nearly to ourselves. The plan is to stay here for a few days and enjoy the peace and the warm sunshine, yes it eventually came out today with the temp about 28 degrees in the sun with the forecast to get hotter. ...
