... and would have been ungrateful not to! Malta has strong Sicilian influences which is reflected in the food. I thought of you, Margaret, as I tucked into a cannoli, a Maltese speciality (tube of pastry filled with ricotta custard etc) in a shady square. As we were leaving to reboard the ship, the canons on the cliff were firing a farewell! And I wished Josh, who is studying the crusades ...

We had a mini sleep-in this morning, then a lovely breakfast in the hotel garden which consisted of the usual breakfast fare but included cake and tiramisu! After a bit of rain yesterday we have been blessed with bright blue skies. Alex and I made our way to St Mark's Square where we lined up to enter St Mark's Basilica. ... a charm bracelet for all of my travels! That evening, all the men in our group threw a Valentine’s extravaganza, where we all sat on the rooftop of our hotel, toasting with various wines, and enjoying the warm Florence evening in lovely company. Danny and I went out with the group that night (to all of their bewilderment and amazement) and decided almost immediately that we had made a terrible decision. We ended up in some club, after an hour of aimless wandering, ...

We wanted to make the most of this morning in Venice as we had to be back on board by noon. So we ordered a room service breakfast between 7.00 & 7.30. It actually came at 7.00. Edie had cereal and a pastry and I had an egg and bacon muffin and some bread with marmalade. By shortly after 8.00 we we ready to go. Four different cruise ships had docked early in the morning. The boat ran a shuttle bus to the dock where the boats take you to St Marks Square. ...
