Hotel Le Saint Nicolas Bar Sur Aube

... in our imaginations--our time together to be.

Way back in the spring or early summer, when Olivier initially invited me to join him in the last two weeks of his August holidays, we both imagined a sort of (mild) motorcycle diaries kind of trip; two guys heading down the east side of France. His invitation contributed to setting my schedule to return home. But only by three or four months. I thought, How could I pass on an opportunity to travel in France with a Frenchman?

Two nights in this "charming" hotel. It has a very French flavour...wrought iron on the window, shutters etc and it was very clean and had a massage shower..but the paint was peeling on the shutters and those charming stairs to the second floor made it difficult for the long suffering suitcase carrier!! This is why you travel with a husband:)
A few very hot days has made being a good tourist difficult..we failed!!! Had thought of doing the 2 hr town walk with audio but the heat ...

... schedule many of us missed that connection. We had to wait around a very hot platform for about two hours for another, different train, with a different forward routing to take us on. For most of us the next point was Munich, Germany. But this train only took us as far as Salzburg, Austria. There we were met by "security" personnel and led to two busses, which took us on to the bahnhof (train station) in Munich. Then it was every person for themselves. For some, of course ...

We've had a couple of days exploring the "Route Touristique du Champagne" in the department of Aube in the southern Champagne region. Our accommodation here is a Logis de France hotel called 'Hostellerie de la Chaumière', where we have demi-pension (bed, breakfast and dinner each day). ... considered very polite, the poor man was stuck in a fit of giggles that he could not stop, accompanied by a stream of tears rolling down his cheeks. (I am talking giggles you get seeing someone trip up the communion aisle in church...the more you try to stop, the more you can't...)  That, of course, got all of us going, and we all sat giggling like goons in the middle of this restaurant....oh it was funny. Tomorrow I am off to Strasbourg for a bit, so will write again once I am back.  

... heel veel geparkeerde auto's. Die bleken echter van de voetbalsupporters in het Stade de l'Aube te zijn. Behalve nog een worstjes-busje was er verder totaal niets te zien. Enigszins teleurgesteld wij weer terug naar de camping. Onze sensatielust wordt deze vakantie toch al niet erg bevredigd, we staan steeds op doorgangscampings, en dus zijn er maar zelden mensen die een voortent van hun caravan opzetten. En dat vinden wij ...

... maar goed ook, want deze camping blijkt behoorlijk aan de prijs te zijn, maar liefst 21 euri per nacht! Op naar..., ja waarheen eigenlijk? In onze gloednieuwe franse gids hebben we een leuke (en goedkope) camping gevonden even ten noorden van Châtillon. Maar onderweg pakken steeds meer donkere wolken zich samen, bijgevolg passen we onze plannen maar weer eens aan. We gaan gewoon terug naar Troyes. Gisteren leek het ons nog een ...

... aankomen staan onze oude buren er al. Ze hebben de koffie al klaar en bieden ons ook een kopje aan. Het wordt een gezellige ochtend. Eind van de middag klauteren we naar beneden het stadje in, boodschapje, terrasje, heerlijk. Vandaag minder mooi weer, maar wel een vrijwel lege camping, zalig! Het stadje is niet echt heel bijzonder, maar heeft wel alles wat we nodig hebben.

Hij zette een radio aan op loeisterkte, zodat wij noodgedwongen de weerberichten voor heel Europa en het laatste nieuws plus allerlei ge-OH moesten volgen. Totdat het W te bar werd. Hij stak zijn hoofd om ons windschermpje en riep of het ook wat zachter kon. Gelukkig kon dat. Oh ja, hij had bovendien caravan en auto ...
