    ... got to bed around 10.30pm. We went through a lock during dinner, but as was dark couldn't see how it all worked, we also docked at Tournus during the latter part of dinner.     ... chicks, all being watched over by the farmer and his/her dog! Buyers armed with cartons or wooden crates haggled over the feathered friends, and when a sale was made the hapless bird was unceremoniously gripped by its leg and tossed into his new home...quelle un surprise! It was fascinating to watch this trade take place, probably unchanged over the span of centuries!

    We had left Périguex early as we had a long ride of almost 500 km, and were using the main roads. In the Burgundy region, we started to take the secondary roads and we came along the side of the Canal du Centre and stopped to see one of the locks in operation.
