... years. Most of the riders are retirees, that take these riding tours a few times a year to "get away from the family, and out on the road".
Yep, they are the aged I will become. No caravan and nursing home for them. It's a Triumph Rocket III with the misses as a pillion, doing 110 mph on the motorbahn on their way to the Nürburgring.

Drove pretty quickly through the pretty French countryside to Soissons which looked like the right kind of sized town to go to a local supermarket to pick up some supplies for Scandinavia which I imagined would be a lot more expensive.

Loaded up the boot with:

20 tins of lentils, chili con carne, peas, carrots,
20 cartons of passata
40 packets of instant noodles
massive pot of herbes de provence ...

... some safari and to the caves. Very touristy and expensive, so we decided to give it a miss.
We saw some signs later on indicating that there were other grottos so decided to move on to Hotton. We found the place quite easily, and went in. ... Decided to. Rave the crowds, and walk up to Sacre Coeur Cathedral. We couldn't go to mass, as it was too late, but we could go for a visit. Beautiful church which sits up high on the hill overlooking all below. There were thousands of steps, and people to go through and it was a hot day, but we managed it. It's a shame that along the steps there are very bad smells of urine which on a hot day are oppressive. Lots of beggars lined the steps too, which makes me sad. Everyone says ...

... the number are European routes and generally toll-roads. And, I found out later, if you do find yourself on a toll road in France, it's generally cheaper to stay on it for a while because the charges are designed to prevent people using it to go ONE JUNCTION!
