We awaken to Provençal birdsong
We awoke at Les Bertrands to streaming sunshine and joyous birdsong, almost a caricature of a perfect Provençal morning. We were with Manfred and Carole at their lovely bergerie—an old stone shepherd's house, which they have lovingly and magnificently restored. It's in the village of Taradeau, in the Départment of Var ("the Var"), which in turn is smack in the middle of Provence.

An easy drive initially until reaching Mansque then a steep climb with amazing views to Moustiers-St.Marie quite a hair-raising drive in "the flash" with lots of narrow sections and precipitous drops into the abyss on the drivers side. We drove around these small roads winding back and forwards, at times with sheer 2 or 300 metre drops on one side and overhanging rock faces on the other.
