We checked in quickly and began the two hour wait for our flight, in the overcrowded terminal. They've tried to make more space, which is desperately needed, by taking out more and more of the duty free shops. My old favorites are now gone; the remaining shops are small and lean. The flight left on time at 13:15 and was not completely full which was pleasant.

work out which was the right road and did a bit of backtracking. The road
continued uphill but surprised us that this forest road was very well
maintained. We drove through a pine forest before coming to very low sparse
vegetation and then finally this bizarre Mars like scenery where there had
previously been lava flows. The last part of the drive to the crater rim was
... in the 1600's and later colonization, not all successful and both have had various masters. The guide was an elderly man born and bred in Reunion and very passionate about his island and who had a magnificent French accent. This was the best ships tour we have done but was not cheap. Another great day. As I write this we at sea again with three days to Durban. The cruise will all be over this time next week and we will be on our way to Botswana.
