A trip to the wonders of nature

My trip to Comoros Islands was more of an adventure than a visit. As soon I arrived there the amazing nature intrigued me into discovering the wildlife of the islands. The nature was richer that what i had expected with all the endangered species of birds and turtles, and some kinds of fish that you can only find in the Comoros ...

More reasons why I need a rich husband...

... progressing to our papaya, and then to my underwear (!), with the exciting climax of me waking up in the middle of the night to it chomping ON MY HAIR. Gross. All this situated in the lovely atmosphere of a town without food called Chomoni. Seriously it took us 2 hours to find some bananas and crackers, and we didn't starve the next day due to the kindness of a French UN worker who was passing by and left us pastries and more bananas. In defense we did have ...

Boating misery

So the last entry I wrote was erased as I tried to post it... go figure. Appologies for the long delay but internet is hard to come by. For your reading pleasure here is the erased post about the boat journey. The next post on our time in the Comoros will be coming soon when internet is a bit cheaper. Well short version. Rose and I thought it would be a good idea to go by boat to the Comoros... how wrong we were. Never travel by cargo boat unless ...

Time to leave the Comoros Islands

... to Moroni to do their shopping. On Sunday; as we wondered where we would find our next meal, a UN car pulled up to our hotel. Out came a middle-aged Frenchman who was doing a tourism assessment of the islands for the UN. If anyone could embody France, it was him. When we offered him some of our filtered water (thanks for the filter waterbottle, Dad!), he laughed and said, "No, I have water from France ...

MISERY CRUISE 2007

Transportation lessons I have learned in the last few years: - Don't take the Megabus overnight to Chicago for only a two-day weekend. - Don't forget your sleeping pills on the 12-hour overnight bus from Delhi to Dharamsala. - Don't EVER travel by sea between African islands in the Indian Ocean. Especially between Zanzibar and the Comoros Islands on the Ile des Comoros II. Put Marta, Rose, and 20 Tanzanians and Comorians in a not-so-big or clean ...

We climb 1900 metres up and 700 back in one day!

... had no intention of climbing the volcano, but realise it is one of the main features of the island, and after our bad experience in Mayotte trying to arrange something in a short time, are happy to have organised something so quickly. We got the distinct impression that the French money in Mayotte made everyone a lot less entrepreneurial than the poorer countries. Head out to explore the "handsome main town" described in our ...

A la recherche des cocos fesses

Il semble que le mauvais temps nous suive. Pas grand chose à voir. Les Comores ressemblent beaucoup aux Seychelles. L'île semble très pauvre. Les gens sont gentils, mais quelque chose manque. It looks like the bad weather follows us. Not much to see. The Comores look a lot like the Seychelles. The island seems very poor. The peoples are nice but something is missing.
