... control recently has broken down, this was the perfect sign to follow, where I planed to cross the border to Switzerland.

Just arrived in late afternoon to Aosta, I was not only already entered to the italian part of the alps but also to the point of good bye. Here I decided not to spend another night in Italy and crossed the border to my homecountry Switzerland a hour later at Calle del Gran San Bernardo.

BIENVENUE EN SUISSE - WELCOME TO SWITZERLAND
Liddes, Valais, Switzerland pajas... used my final day of my eurrail pass for this trip only to find that the trip from Visp station to the Zermatt was not valid despite being told by two train operators that it was. I also couldn't get through to the girl at the station that my eurrail pass allows me discounts for the train but she kept telling me, 'no, no, you can't use anymore days it's full'. Today wasn't the first time I have been stuffed around by the Swiss. It's hard to believe that Einstein was educated here.

Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland tonkin... room, toilets and showers to myself. I rarely saw anyone and reception was really nice. I then headed to Cully to try the famous Lavaux walk but caught a train that didn't make all the stops so I ended up at Lausanne again. I decided to take a bit of a walk, making my way through Pully and then to Letvy where I caught the train to Cully. The view was great but the vineyards that I stumbled across in Letvey were better because there was noone around and you could really smell the wine.
Montreux, Vaud, Switzerland tonkinSo my theory of.."you just turn on the gas stove and the van gets warm"...um no Emma. Not when its freezing - literally - outside.
I managed to get a waterproof jacket our first night which was a blessing!!!
Woke up Tuesday at 6.30am! It was still dark but the skies had finally cleared up and as I ran out in the cold to the toilet blocks I was rewarded by a sky full of stars.. so pretty! It was SO cold tho! I had all my clothes on! If I hadnt ...
Lauterbrunnen, Swiss Alps, Switzerland emmasadventures... Bill said how elated he was with our surroundings, and I can’t disagree either. We were right up close to the three famous mountains of the region (Jungfrau, Monch, and Eiger), Europe’s highest train station, and the place where 007 movie “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” was filmed. After gradually gaining 1000m in altitude, we found ourselves at the top of a very ...
Lauterbrunnen, Swiss Alps, Switzerland tidolu14When Chris originally asked me if I wanted to relax on a beach or explore somewhere new for our anniversary, I now know to take him seriously. We have been on the move and exploring.

We rose early in hopes of seeing the Jungfruajoch Mountain (http://www.myjungfrau.ch) before the rains set in today. We skipped breakfast and left the train station at 7:15 am and arrived at the mountain a little before 9 am. We were ...
Jungfrau Region, Swiss Alps, Switzerland chrisbriley... to wait. in the mean time go to mountainhostel.com and you can get a look. Yesterday i went on hike, well actually more like an expedition, with 2 friends, Deon from Australia and Kanchan from London, we treked from the hostel at 1300m up to the peak of Shilthorn at about 3000m. pretty amazing took us a little over 4 hours to get up the mountain, and the last few hundred meters was treking through about a foot of snow. and steep too. i mean it was tough but so worth it ...
Gimmelwald, Swiss Alps, Switzerland indigosb... road was closed. We didn't even think that the road would be closed. Evidently we passed a sign way way back (even though in German) telling us that the pass was closed. While at the top Simon got chatting to guy parked up there. He told us that he thought that a pass was open a couple of hours away in another direction. We didn't really have any other option so we took his advice and drove for another couple of hours to Luzern. There we found a ...
Lauterbrunnen, Swiss Alps, Switzerland cooknz... where the enterprising owner refused to provide even tapwater to tired hikers, instead charging exorbitant sums for a bottle of water. We stayed for tea and cake, then headed back down the hills to Lauterbrunnen, where we collapsed. The next day brought the predicted bad weather, so we spent the day touring around Interlaken, the main tourist town near Lauterbrunnen, and the pretty alpine town of Grindewald ...
