into Borneo, Malaysia

After Qantas finished shuffling us around, we ended up on a BA flight to Singapore. Maybe it was to get us used to Asian conditions, they had the aircon on "tropical". It was a relief to emerge into the wonderful tranquil cool of Singapore airport.

We overnighted in the transit hotel and then flew to Kota Kinabalu the following morning. From my window seat I could see lots of mysterious coastlines and islands. To help us recover from jet-lag and celebrate my birthday, we had rather ni...

Kota Kinabalu

For those of you who havent heard of Kota Kinabalu, (read: 99% of you), its on an island called Borneo and for those who havent heard of Borneo (read: 95% of you), its a rainforest island, shared by Indonesia and Malaysis, with hot springs, mountains and rivers. I must add that a 3rd country occupies this island, but its so small no one will mind I forgot it: Brunei, famous for one of the largest single collections of Ferraris, Bentleys and Mercedes Benzes...oh and the Sultanof Brunei spends ...

He seemed to relish the challenge and grew very excited when we caught up with it, and indeed at Ranau we were rewarded with seats on a comfortable coach that landed us in Sepilok 3 hours later.

That put us at the side of the road, in the dark, with heavy bags and stiff ...

Beautiful Borneo

... stayed 2 nights in a jungle lodge nearby and ventured down to the centre on Tuesday and we were both blown away by what we saw. The idea of this place is to take orphaned, misplaced or injured orang-utans and allow them to recover before releasing them back into a safe and monitored jungle. We got to see a family of orang-utans in the outdoor jungle nursery where the babies learn all the skills ...

Twice as Nice: Malaysia Travels

... spend the rest of my money on overpriced western food. After grubbing, we took the monorail to KL Sentral and then took the train to the airport. As usual, we ran into Amy and John on the train. We hung out with them at the airport, taking goofy pictures in front of a goofy castle backdrop. Matt and I left the lovers for their final moments, preparing ourselves for the flight back to Korea. Homeward Bound I started writing this blog about 2 months ago, but my new ...

... hindu and buddist temples surrounded by misty mountains to highly active volcanoes in an environment only comparable to the deserts in starwars, and then the other extreme of oh so amazingly green jungle valleys with ricepaddies as far as the eye can see. We found time to stop by Bali and didn't have any trouble having a good time in both Ubud, the artists "village" and Kuta, the aussie "playground". Our time in Indonesia ended on an extremelely ...
