... We had to go around it, but it looks like a very flourishing town, with lots of lovely buildings - like La Bourboule should look
We carried on up to the foot of the Telepherique which would take us up to 1780m.
The last bit to the peak of Sancy is a climb up 860 wooden steps!! ...

... and nothing was open and the chair lift wasn't running. So we decided to press on to a campsite we had picked out at Murat-le-Quare. It was called Le Panoramique and promised , what else,panoramic views over the Puys!

... us remained blue with fluffy clouds but behind us, it was so dark, it looked like the death star descending. Thunder rumbled ominously but luckily we stayed dry. The scenery is beautiful, very green with patches of forest and open grassland covered with wild flowers. Patches of snow are still visible on some of the higher peaks.

After returning to Ruby, we headed for a campsite just outside Chambon -sur-Lac. The campsite is lovely with coloured bird boxes ...

... and the saucisse are great as well. 4 sausages for 10€...the flavours and the smells...so yummy :) Taking advantage of the morning sunshine we went bush for a while, walking a trail to Chiloza Cascades. This was a walk through the bush to the river that cascaded over rocks in a myriad of mini waterfalls. So very peaceful and not another soul in sight, except for snails...are these the escargot we eat in the restaurants? They are certainly big enough! After finally finding ...

... aside here. Paul says the best advice he was given pre-trip, other than "don't go you idiot", was from Dominic Miller, who works for OIM. "Take gaffer tape," advised sagacious Andy. And, let's face it, it has come in useful. Although I struggle to think of a situation when gaffer tapes not a sensible addition to any trip or set of circumstances.
