More reasons why I need a rich husband...

... water, electricity, and the awesome addition of a hotel owner who thinks (and looks like) he is the reincarnation of Bob Marley. Comoros: for about 15 bucks Rose and I get a foam mattress on top of a bed of rocks (no seriously), inside a shack with holes in the roof, no electricity, no water other than in jugs, a lovely hole in the ground toilet out in the open air (locals watching you poo included), and the charming presence of a critter who eats our ...

Boating misery

... ever seen in my life, trying not to fall into the toilet from the waves, trying not to vomit from the combined smell and motion sickness, hoping I was peeing into the toilet and not on my legs, I realized that I can handle a lot. If anybody ever asks "can you handle that?" I can with confidence state that "you cant even fathom what i can handle. I survived 4 days on a cargo boat in Africa...you dont even know." We saw people eating, and the townsfolk looked well-fed, but all we could find to eat on the first night was some biscuits, and after more searching, bananas and oranges, and we bought out the town. We climb 1900 metres up and 700 back in one day!

... think we don't have enough time to do the latter as we fly out on Thursday, but work out that we don't fly till 4.30pm, so can do it. The negotiations almost break down when we are hammered 18 to 20 euros for the taxi in, versus about E5 in a share taxi. Settle for E15, and a total charge of E170 for a tour ending back at the airport. Pay him E80 advance, to line up the gear, excluding sleeping gear, as we will use ours. One hour ago ...

A la recherche des cocos fesses

Il semble que le mauvais temps nous suive. Pas grand chose à voir. Les Comores ressemblent beaucoup aux Seychelles. L'île semble très pauvre. Les gens sont gentils, mais quelque chose manque. It looks like the bad weather follows us. Not much to see. The Comores look a lot like the Seychelles. The island seems very poor. The peoples are nice but something is missing.
