... and headed downstairs to check things out. There is a dining area and a large common area with a small bar at one end. Lots of couches, books, and places for people to sit and visit.

Sat at the bar and girl says there is white wine but no red!!!!!!! We spy a bottle up on the shelf, it is a pinotage and we buy it for the evening. Meet two regulars from out in the community, Eldon in oil and gas and Bill ...

... the first night at the opening concert, Winifred and Rames. He is Indian Malagasy, born there. She is from Boston, white with that kind of save the world aura about her. They met in Rwanda and have been back in Madagascar for 9 years. They had a gorgeous villa and served some delicious food including deviled eggs. Yes, deviled eggs. I don't even eat eggs unless they are deviled so I was very happy. I asked if our staff people could join the party ...

... drive we made several stops, one at a local village to tour a house. The house was three stories tall with two rooms on each floor, the ground floor had a storage room and a foyer/entry way where the chickens sleep on cold nights, the middle floor had two bedrooms and the too floor had a bedroom and the kitchen/dining/family room. Altogether the house was smaller than mine and 32 people from the one extended family lived in it. There were only 3 double beds which the oldest ...

... The city was spread over several tall hills, with windy cobbled (well in my area) streets snaking away in no discernible plan. Once in a while an old colonial building or street would pop into view, crowded and full of old Renaults, Citrons and the occasional Tuk Tuk. All in all it was rather charming with markets, patisseries, pharmacies and locals carrying shopping bags, baguettes and baskets on their heads. All very….. French. ...
