... Catherine ruled France as regent from her study at Chenonceau. She had the extension built over the river so there could be a ballroom for royal events.The owner of the chateau during the French revolution saved the chapel from being destroyed by using it as firewood storage. ... so was massive to get around. Up the stairs and on the roof was just incredible Amazing view and just seeing all the stone work and how it would have been int he day was incredible, This castle/chateaux was huge. ... We also went for a drive to Gien to have a look around and from there to Briare. It was very interesting as it has a canal bridge that crosses over the Loire River large enough to carry tourist boats and barges. The Pont Canal bridge was built with the help of Eiffel (Tower) back in 1890-94 is 662 metres long and has a footpath on either side.
