Lovely relaxed start to the day with brekky in our courtyard before heading out to another medieval town about half an hours drive away. We have had a busy two days. First I will start with the castles. We visited Chateau Castelnaud yesterday. It is a very well preserved castle perched high above the Dordogne River on a menacing cliff. There has been a fortified structure on this site since Roman times and a stone castle since 1100. It has seen multiple revisions until 1600 to account for advances in warfare. It was last revised to accommodate cannons. The fort seemed to change hands ...
