Woke up with high hopes of an early ride today looked out the window and could not believe how far down the mountain the cloud had rolled. Climbing big Cols was out of the question.
We took an early morning trip St Jean de Maurienne to stock up on supplies and have a coffee and croissant. The weather started getting worse so it was time for bread, cheese, salami and wine.
By the afternoon the rain stopped ...
... and if the weather permits I will add the Montee La Toussure at 1705m.
Right outside our doorstep is the road to the Col Du Telgraphe and the Galibier which tops out at a frightening 2645m. That's looking like my Sunday sparrows ride.
We visited the ski village of Valloire today just above (on the road) but below the top of the Telegraphe in elevation. I could see part of the Galibier from there. Its an intimidating looking climb.
There was another site down the road, it was a little cheaper but the pitch was worse, our next site we had planned, in France was only 33miles away, so we decided to head for that, not before stopping in a Pizza Restaurant for a last meal in Italy - it was the best Pizza we had had, and the Tiramisu (Sarah's) and Profiteroles (Tom's) deserts were amazing :)
... to leave at 12 noon as the museum closes for 2 hours between 12 and 2pm......remember, everything shuts, even tourism, when the French stop for lunch!
Lake Annecy is a great spot in the summer, with a lot of activities on and around the lake. Signs are up everywhere for paddle boarding, kayaking, water skiing, fishing and swimming. We hired a couple of bikes for a few hours and rode a fair way around the lake before turning back in time to return ...
... our reward. The girls skied well with me trailing behind and taking one or two falls. The plan was to meet Ali, Julie and Andy at Le Chalet des Neiges, which we did but only after taking a wrong turn having navigated faultlessly all day. We had a late lunch outdoors in glorious sunshine and then had a gentle ski back with Ali. Andy and I did one last short run then headed back to the hotel. What a fantastic final day to end the ...
