... all excited to finally get to the Eiffel Tower after seeing it from all different angles on our walks all over the city for the past few days.
We walked up the stairs as far as the third floor and then after looking at the city from every vantage point took the elevator up to the top floor. The iron work is amazing and we took many photos of the tower and view as possible. Standing at 1000 feet above Paris was breathtaking.
Later that day we made ...
... DFW airport. The previous days were a blur of details, since an absence of two months requires forethought and planning.
Our flight to Detroit left Dallas ten minutes late and we had quite a bit of turbulence on the way up through the clouds. Marjolaine really doesn't care for turbulence, but I don’t mind as much because when we hit any, she very much likes to hold my hand….
We were further delayed by having to fly around ...
... we saw some more paintings at the Lourve (most I already saw) Most interesting paintings were Napoleon crowning himself king, faces made out of fruit,David and Goliath,Mona Lisa, and tons more. Famous artists were da Vinci,Raphael,Veronese,Michel angelo. Then we walked to the arc de triumph (because we JUST did the Lourve everybody was tired but Dad wanted to see the arc de triumph so we climbed up the arc de triumph (it was tiring) and we took the subway to our apartment.
... The city sits above a large underground system of cellars and tunnels that store and age all of the Champagne in the city. We took a nice tour of one of the Champagnewineries. It was a whirlwind week to try to see and do as much as we could, but we had an incredible time and it was the perfect ending to our one in a lifetime trip!
... and Roman statues
and I couldn't leave without staring at the 140 karat diamond in "whats-his-names" crown.
Then we discovered the Napoleon apartments, his incredible living quarters which we had missed previously.
Again, we followed a Rick Steves' guided walk which he calls "Historic Paris Walk" to make sure that we hit the highlights. ...
