We had a marvelous night of sleep. No wake up calls, no alarms, just sleep. The hotel here has a well-stocked breakfast that goes until 10:30. Perfect.
Talk about a small world. We are meeting "cute Greek officer", Panos, at noon. He and I met on a Windstar cruise in 2014 and he is starting a small group tour company here in Greece. We had coffee and he walked us around the Plaka where he treated us to Souvlaki. It was amazing. ...
... All the buildings are painted white. As you walked along there are many tiny doorways leading into shops with have large interiors, these had jewellery, shoes, food and clothing inside. Of course Kaye was salivating at each. As to cafes and restaurants their doorways led to beautiful open shaded courtyards which provided delightful samples of local cuisine often olives, cheeses, seafood, salads and cheap beer and wine. ... a very proud people with plenty of history and I think some of that was displayed in the 10 minute guard change. Luckily I took a video as it really needs to be seen to be believed. The ferry is due to depart at 7:00pm but when we arrive at the port it hasn't arrived from Ancona, it has been delayed by a maritime inspection. Finally depart around 11:00pm while we are having a very late dinner on board.
Having been on the go for about 18 hours we hit the sack totally knackered.
