... place Jan got to walk a few steps with them, shouldering the very heavy load for a minute or so.

We arrived at our hotel, got organized, then walked to a nearby restaurant for dinner. We had a chance to get to know our bus driver, Venis. He speaks no Engish so my Spanish got a workout, and to learn more about Walter. One of our tripmates was celbrating her birthday, so we all had a slice of very good cake..

We we got off at the next stop, which turned out to be squarely in the middle of a busy shopping district and right outside the large Miraflores mall. With so many people going on with their business, what are these people talking about? But as instructed, we hopped into the next cruising taxi for the short ride into the city center.

... Guatemala and she was not interested in seeing the inside of a Guatemalan prison and was ready to toss it out the window if anyone came on board but she made it through 3 crossing in and out of the country.

Speaking of border crossing, security checks and such, I think we all know how random they can be and we certainly found that true in Central America, not that we are a group to worry about, ...

Returning to Antigua, I wandered around downtown again, taking in more festivities, but then headed to the hotel for a quick nap before dinner. Needless to say, I woke up around 9:30 PM, decided against dinner and rolled over and went back to sleep until 530 this morning!!! Packing, breakfast and wandering until my shuttle leaves for Lago Atitlan! 3 days of beach/lake ...

... locals name for the city, tourists are recommended not to show any signs of wealth outdoors, although it depends on which area and at what time of day. I marvelled at some lovely flora and fauna, and then, although it did not bother me, I found out that the adjacent natural history museum was closed on Mondays, despite what my book stated.
