And CHEESE!!

... 8211; so the views weren’t really there. But it was nice to be in the mountains! I can’t remember the name of the mountain we were on, but it has caves you can walk through, and a little church on the side of the mountain using one of the caves, pretty cool! We came back down on the gondola and ate sandwiches while watching the cows with their bells.. Very relaxing. Then on the way home we stopped by an Appenzeller cheese factory where ...

Well, fancy meeting you here!!

... familiar green Series Land Rover travelling in the opposite direction. It was Gaz and Charlotte in the Lean Green Recycled macnine!! Of course we stopped and turned round, and they did the same.

We were wondering why on earth they were on that road, but we soon found out they were on the way back towards Calais. The night before, things had proved too much for their motor, and they had problems ...

photo, anyone?

... us through a shopping centre. There we spotted a couple of uniforms, which just had to be policemen, so we decided to chance our luck. When we explained the mission, they were more then happy to oblige with the photo of the team and one of them. The next question was the 'handcuffs' photo. As I was speaking in German to them, I managed to det the idea over, but the policeman ...

Across the border

... Feldkirch I got lost. Actually I was just trying to get to McDonald's because the group wanted a bathroom break and the public toilets here were not to our standards. Anyway, I drove past the McDonald's twice - once my fault and once the navigator's - and drove down a pedestrian only section of road before we gave up and continued on our journey out of town and deeper into Austria.

... weren't too interested so they took Lincoln (who couldn't go with us) and we went to have a look. It was a rewarding visit. It is amazing to think how long ago some of those books and transcripts were written, and how well cared for they must be to remain in excellent condition. The library itself is breathtaking, with leather bound books lining the shelves, large windows (no doubt filtered), elaborate woodwork and staircases, and a muraled ceiling ...

Just Passing Through

... Does he know something I don't? Maybe she IS working, but... the bus station? The friend she's waiting for soon shows up and sits down, so that should quell the rumors, but Vitalis man just gets up and moves a few steps away, lurking watching waiting. I've never seen anything like it, like something straight out of the Discovery Channel. The closest thing I've ever seen in real life was when Nonay was in heat ...

The most beautiful tiny country in the world

Hello everyone, A quick note to say that we spent a day walking (yes, walking) around the tiny country of Liechtenstein. It was absolutely stunning. We walked along the Rhine River from Schaan to Vaduz, with tall mountains all around us, from rolling green lower mountains, to semi-tall heights with smatterings of snow, then mammoth peaks covered in the white stuff. Unbelievable. It took us about four hours to thoroughly explore the entire country. No joke. Take care! Wayne

Contiki Day 15: Liechtenstein

... else there. They have some weird painted cow figures though, and giant stamps put on the pavement. It's slightly scary to be in a nation where stamps are taken so seriously. I think I might have grievously offended one shop person when she asked me if I'd like some and I said no. They use the Swiss Frank there, and if it was next to any country other than Switzerland, I think they just would have invaded and made them a strange provincial town.

4. Thunder in the Mountains

... it has been 26 years (ouch). I'll interrogate my brothers when I next speak to them and see what they remember. We drove back home via the Black Forest (Germany) and my mother was particularly disgusted when I barely stopped reading for the entire journey. I don't blame her - I'm pretty disgusted with me now - what a waste! As a result, I won't count that drive through as a trip to Germany, making my first proper visit there mighty overdue, some 20odd years later.
