Now you see it.. now you don't

We were planning to go to Liechtenstein but thought we may as well as it was sort of on our way. It's the worlds 6 smallest country so it would have been rude not to go..haha.

We didn't drive to the main town but to another.. where really there wasn't anything. I did get a photo with the tourist sign though. Had to somehow prove I'd been there!
And CHEESE!!

... 8211; so the views weren’t really there. But it was nice to be in the mountains! I can’t remember the name of the mountain we were on, but it has caves you can walk through, and a little church on the side of the mountain using one of the caves, pretty cool! We came back down on the gondola and ate sandwiches while watching the cows with their bells.. Very relaxing. Then on the way home we stopped by an Appenzeller cheese factory where ...

Across the border

Our third stop of the day was our first in Austria. Now I was entering undiscovered lands! Feldkirch is right on the Switzerland border. The old town centre is surrounded by towers, and a castle sits on a hill above.

We explored Feldkirch and a few of its towers. The old town is quite charming with its colorful buildings, trickling fountains, and small shops. When we tried to ...

UNESCO Abbey and another Old Town

Our next stop was St Gallen, home of a beautiful abbey with a medieval library and neighbouring by a charming Old Town. We walked around the abbey exterior before everyone went inside, with the exception of Lincoln and I. I have been here before and know it is a very ornate baroque design inside.

Next, we walked to the abbey library which houses the largest medieval collection of books in the world, basically. There was an admission to go in and my ...

Quck jaunt to Liechtenstein

... get on the bus I watched southern Liechtenstein roll past on the way to Vaduz. Cute villages with quaint houses, cows grazing in green pastures, and a castle sitting on a high hill surrounded by vineyards.

Vaduz is a very nice city. The royal residence, a castle of course, sits on a high cliff directly above the city centre. The main street is a pedestrian street with shops and restaurants, museums, the tourist office, the ...

Just Passing Through

... be different. There is more diversity than might be immediately apparent, divergences in time and space amongst people with a common history, up to a point. Slovenia and Croatia could fit right into Western Europe without missing a beat while Serbia struggles to throw off its past, Bosnia struggles to cling to its own, and Albania struggles to pull itself together after dodging bullets for most of the last two ...

Leichtenstein...kinda sounds like Frankenstein!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMY (Pekarchuk!!) Ok so Leichtenstein is another one of those places we didn't think we would go to...but I remember Jessie & Alex telling us about going there so we looked it up and here we are. It is a very tiny country (not as small as Vatican City though!!!) It borders Austria and Switzerland. The WHOLE country takes only 30 minutes to drive across!! When the lady at the tourist office showed us where we were on a ...

Flat Matt's excellent adventure

... they stopped in the tiny country of Liechtenstein and snapped a picture of Flat Matt being welcomed there. Once back in Amsterdam, Chris, David and I rode Flat Matt to the Muiden castle. It's about a 2 hour bike ride from Amsterdam to Muiden, through the East side of Amsterdam - which we hadn't really visited before. There's also a pretty part of the ride ...

Sights of Vaduz!

... sandwiches from a nearby bakery for lunch then took some pictures of Vaduz city. Next we got the Liechtenstein stamps in our passports for 2CHF each before starting the climb to Vaduz Castle which overlooked the city. The climb was very steep in parts and tiring but worth the effort for the spectacular views over Vaduz and the surrounding mountains. Walked back down to the city and went to the post office to get some stamps for the ...
