Train arrived in Ajmer around lunchtime, caught an auto to the bus station, half an hour later driving through some hills arrived in Pushkar where I caught a cycle rickshaw to my hotel...talk about different modes of transport!
Unfortunately the holy lake which Pushkar is set around was being cleaned so it was almost dry...
Took a walk through the main bazaar area (a 1km stretch of shops catering for both the Indian and foreign tourists) which was pretty interesting even wit...
Joel: We got a bus from Jodhpur to Ranakpur which is a small village in the heart of the Aravelli mountains between Jodhpur and Udaipur. We specifically came to see the Ranakpur Jain temples and they did not disappoint. It contains the most famous and largest Jain temple in India which is dedicated to the first Jain Tirthankar (enlightened human) of our time cycle, Adinath (aka Lord Rishabha). It is a big temple (ceiling around 7m high), made up of white marble and is beautiful and intricatel...
Ranakpur, Rajasthan, India joelroseEM: Ok so many days after the events i am about to describe, Max and I still struggle to keep up with this blog. Photo's are now up I promise and hopefully they can do alot of the talking for us. Before we start a little background on Puskar. Bramha was said to have dropped a lotus flower on the Earth and up rose Pushkar. It is said to be the only place in India where a temple is dedictated to Lord Bramha one of the three Trimurti (the three main gods of Hinduism- all of the other gods are in...
Pushkar, Rajasthan, India max.rapleyWe drove over the hills from Ajmer on a switchback road (bus had to back up on a few turns) in a bus that probably seated about 25 people - we had over 50! We walked into the city down the main road. no cars allowed - only motorbikes. the "rickshaws" were really guys pulling tables on wheels. you could sit on it with your bags. (we didnt) there were people everywhere - VERY colourful. We heard that there were over 20,000 people in Pushkar for the annual Camel Fair. We arrived on the second la...
Pushkar, India monitaPushkar is a small town or 15,000 or so odd souls and 400 milky-colored temples surounding a 'holy' lake. Once again, by holy I mean that our author must abstain from all meat, eggs, and yes alcohol. If one were to look it up in lonely planet it would surely say to visit it during it's November (Kartika by the Hindu calendar) Camel Fair, an event which draws 200,000 people, 40,000 camels, and 10,000 odd cattle (but who can really tell in India, because they roam freely anyway). During that ti...
Pushkar, India tysonrtw I don't want you to be alarmed, dear reader, but I felt it appropriate that our third pair of eyes, the one and only Emily Newton, write a guest entry. Let's be easy on her, maybe even give her an encouraging comment or two. And don't worry, we'll be back after Pushkar and Ajmer.
After getting off the bus in Pushkar and elbowing our way past the pushy (ha) hostel touts shoving business cards practically down our throats, we actually saw a sign for our hostel! This was ...

Pushkar, Rajasthan, India nanagnana... be burning all night Janice staved off her freight and agreed to come. It was great to do this all as a family. I had mentioned to Nanna what we were up to and she said to bring a good pillow to sit on. I didn't think much of it at the time but let me tell you me that I now know very well what she meant. My butt still hurts as I sit on a train writing this a week later. I think Sabrina summed things up the best as originally the most excited to go ...

Ah, he tenido una experiencia casi traumatica, he visto una vaca sentada cagando un kilo de caca deshecha con grumos, ha sido asqueroso..... Pushkar esta lleno de cabras, cerdos ...
Pushkar, Rajasthan, India irmaferranIt's been a very un/eventful couple of days in Pushkar. It's warm, beautiful, lots of great shopping, lots of great food, interesting conversations, hot showers (!), a couple of amazing hikes... I can see how a person could get stuck here for a while. But it's true- I'm a little bored. I ran into the same Frenchman at my favorite dining spot again today- he's been traveling for months and also leaves Pushkar tomorrow. We had breakfast ...
