This tradition I'm told is of Spanish origin, not Indian (different from the danza de los diablitos in Boruca.) I'm able to get a bit more background on this online--but my understanding of it is still limited. Here's what I ...

    ... side...
    1) No sheets, toilet paper, tissues, or pillow were provided -- that's on YOU to bring
    2) No hot water, A/C, or fan -- Jaman brought me a fan (saved me big time)
    3) No one spoke English (not so negative for me but anyone that didn't communicate the language would be lost)

    On the positive side....
    1) single room with private bathroom and shower
    2) 3 (liquid) meals a day
    3) great care and a full staff
    and lastly ...
