We left Annecy and headed to La Clusaz, a ski village between Annecy and Chamonix. Quite a big little village. We wandered around, wished we could buy many outdoor things! bought a baguette for lunch and continued up the road to the big car park where the hikes start. Absolutely stunning 360degree views! We'll definitely stay here tonight :) We hit the ...

... to follow since the road was being closed for the Tour. We all filled up our water bottles and headed up to the summit finish at La Toussuire, a beautiful ski resort. By now it was getting very hot. They have been having record heat here in the Alps with most days reaching low to mid 90s. Everyone in our group kept a steady pace and we rested occasionally. Within our group there are riders of all abilities. On day one I think many were out to prove their cycling skill. By ...

Ray, Rich and I have mostly been riding the "Performance" rides but there were a few of the riders that were riding “Extreme” the first 3 days that dropped into our group. They are strong riders therefore the pace was a little higher.

Our ride was to finish up a steep climb call Les Lacets de Montvernier. It is this crazy road that ...

... or head for home. By now it was almost 2 pm. We left the hotel at
8:30 am so everyone was ready to head in. As we continued our decent we had an
unwelcome surprise. The road we were supposed to take was closed due to
construction. The only way home, take a detour that involved a 2.5 mile climb
at 8-10%. So much for finishing early. By now it was so hot the road tar was
beginning to melt a bit. The melting roads made the ascent seem that much
    harder and ...

Up early this morning, truth is I woke at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep. I need to be down at St Jean du Maurienne for the start of the Etape by 6:45am and I have a 30min drive to get there from my base at Valmeinier.

Here's the breakfast plan, make a cup of coffee tip it into a drink bottle, grab some eats for breakfast (madeleines, banana, drinking yogurt plus 2 stale "pain au chocolates" I pinched from the hotel ...
