      in Switzerland.



      My hotel is
      right in the centre of Megeve right on the motor vehicle free pedestrian walkway.
      After a good soak in a hot bath I had a couple of beers sitting out the front
      of the hotel right beside the walkway. Helen and John had warned me that you
      almost had to wear a fur coat to promenade in winter in this village, ...

      ... hour traffic. Now, imagine doing this for 4:30 at a time except for stoping for refuelling or a coffee break. But instead of riding at 110km/h you are riding at 130/140 constantly overtaking column of trucks and being overtaken by those drivers in a hurry. Add a bit of rain to top it up and then you will understand why I get a bit tired at the end of the day.

      Leaving the refuge the next morning we passed a memorial to a half dozen US fliers who had died on the mountain nearby during WWII when their bomber crashed into the mountain. Some of their remains remained frozen in ice till the 1970's when they were returned to the US for burial.

      ... was decorated very creativly with farm tools, cheese making devices, cowbells, vintage pictures, old french cabinets and such.

      After dinner, the refuge hosts rolled out a player music box that she cranked, pulling a though a roll of stiff paper with holes in it. Suddenly we were listening to the Beatles "Yellow Submarine"! Everyone in the dinning room, no matter where they were from, knew it and we all began singing along.

      After about 7 hours total hiking we reached Refuge de Croix de Bonhomme. Although the setting was stunning, this would turn out to be our least favorite refuge of the whole trip.
