Happy Birthday to me :)

... closed on a sunday. So, we went around the entire town trying to find food. Anything...just anything would be good at this point. Only until bout 30 minutes did we finally get to a sandwich shop and just enhale our sandwiches. But, these were amazing. I got the special chicken ciabatta...Chicken, mayo, lettuce, tomato, egg, oregano, basil, sliced chicken...Ohhh, so good.

That satisified our appetite. We continued along the city streets, getting our food together and ...

Tarifa

I arrive in Tarifa around 8pm. I check into the hostel which is nice but empty. The town is tiny but cute. Practically every shop is a kite surfing school or store. I walk around, see the old wall and castle and sit on the beach for a while and watch the sun set. Afterwards I go back to the hostel where I meet one of my 2 roommates, a guy from south Korea named Peter. He ...

... much a Brit enclave. English and Irish pubs and cafes advertising Full English Breakfast and Sunday Roast with Yorkshire Pudding abound. However it was useful to be able to buy English newspapers so easily, as a large pine tree in front of the caravan blocked our TV reception! It was also an opportunity for me to get a much-needed haircut from an English-speaking hairdresser, a very nice chap from Kent called Ken ...

Not crossed the Straits yet!

... I mean. So the first 2 nights will be spent in Tangiers 'acclimitising' to our new surroundings. There is a campground but we have decided to stay in a hotel, and get used to the fact that we are going to have to negotiate for rooms, hot water etc. Also, the campground is 2kms out of town whereas most of the budget hotels are clustered around the Medina, a much more interesting way to acclimitise. The guide book (Lonely Planet) we are using is a 2007 edition and ...

Bye Bye Las Dunas!

... Nicco the Florentine actor have left us yesterday, and it was a bit sad since we had ended spending two weeks living closely with them...at the same time I'm really glad I got to know Nicco a bit better, he really is a remarkable human being. In case you find yourself in Florence one day and are looking for some theathre, check his company out, it's called Venti Lucenti and I ...

... this would be scary without Abdul. Children playing soccer in streets and bands of roving teenagers show up by late in the day. The girls are turning heads. I'm walking well behind them and its fun to watch. One approx 16 yo boy walks into me with his head fully turned at KT as I'm filming. All day....we see only one group of 3 college age Americans. We do end up finding the same things Abdel was ...

Rock the Kasbah!

After weeks of anticipation we (Claire and I) finally arrived in Morocco. Desperately in need of a break from Europe and the 1000 churches and museums that have started to blend together. To start our Moroccan adventure we crossed the Strait of Gibraltar by ferry boat (3 hours) from Algeciras, Spain to Tangier. Immediately upon our arrival we were hounded by several guides of the official and "faux" nature. Each one promising us beautiful hotel rooms ...

Northern Africa... coming off the ferry we forgot to get our passports stamped and had to return to the immigration office on the ship, we weren't the only ones. it was sprinkling rain as we wheeled off the ferry along with a pack of pedestrians. everyone has a passport check on the dock and then later some people are called aside for a bag x-ray. fortunately we rode past the customs unsearched and into the ...

... the Nouvelle Ville, with all the La Drones, Tontos and Chulos. People just hang around though and are pretty sedate. Bumper cars on the beach front. Put it's a port and the waters pretty manky. We head down the coast to swim soon I should expect, Like we did at the Grotto de Hercule. It's where Hercules of the Atlas fame lived with all his ladies.

... I wandered out of the station briefly but with time short I decided it best to catch a taxi. So I took a taxi to El Parque de Maria Luisa and wandered around there trying to figure out where I was...eventually got my orientation and made it to the Museo Arqueologico at exactly 8pm to meet Karla (I´m punctual even when traveling hundreds of miles). We went for some food and got some tapas quick. Her return bus ticket to Cadiz was for 9pm so we didn´t have long. I went ...
