We left Annecy, France and headed around the top of Lake Geneve , Switzerland. Closed our eyes and put our finger on the map to pick a place to stay the night ...Chexbres. It turned out to be a very small town on the lake , amidst terraces of vines, cobbled streets and alpine chalets smothered with geraniums. Gorgeousville !!! First person we have met from CO so far. Where in CO, we ask. He says, Montrose. No kidding. He is an artist there and has come to paint the Matterhorn. First name started with R and last name with O, but that is all we can remember. He proceeded to set up an easel and start painting. Mind ...

... you wanted to have a rest stop, it was frustrating but seemed to dissipate a bit with altitude.
After a longish stop at Elena, fueling up and staring out at lovely glacier views, we started the steep slog up to the Grande Col Ferret. A very steep and breathless, but thankfully short ascent, it was steeper than Col de la Seigne coming into Italy, but much shorter. Rounding the top of the col which marked the Italian ...
