... street we came to the square which had a beautiful wooden house on the corner that is very well known. Further down the same street was the Hotel de Ville and St. Peter's cathedral. This was very beautiful. Of course, we went inside. It is a very old Gothic cathedral with the altar draped for Ascension Day. We then stopped at a local cafe and had cappuccino.

There will be a wine and cheese tasting this afternoon.

... that they must have a fire alarm sound for 5 minutes every time an event is held there. So after the foie gras, the alarm started going off and a man was barking orders in French which none of us understood including the guides. No one could turn off this cacophony and then we were served our main course and desert. We drove back through beautiful countryside to our waiting river boat. Tomorrow to Macon.

When we got to Paris, they were mostly staying on the southern side and I needed to go north, but they dropped me right by a convenient metro station and even gave me a metro ticket that they just had lying around. I mean, really! It was incredible. It was certainly an amazing way to end my time in Taize, and a wonderful example of God providing for those who rely on Him.

So basically, it is important to make sure that the US doesn't become socialist, and that the government doesn't get too involved in deciding what things a company should care about when deciding whether or not to hire someone. The US isn't a perfect meritocracy, and I'm not a political theorist - I'm sure there are downsides to such a society as well, but it certainly seems like a better way than corruption and cronyism!

I'm definitely going to have to split this into multiple entries, since I was there a whole week, so here's the first - an explanation of Taize.

Spent Holy Week at Taize, which was nice. Southern France is absolutely gorgeous, although for some reason it was much colder than Paris. It was maybe in the low 60s if we got lucky in the late afternoon, but often was more like the 40s, which is just a little too cold for the clothing ...
