The apartment is nothing to get excited about, but it's only 1 night and it's relatively inexpensive! We have loved every minute of our travels in Slovenia. Tomorrow we will drive through the country's only national park, which has 50 hairpin turns...something tells me that will be both exciting and ...

It's flow swishes in my right ear while birds getting ready for bed tweet in ...

... Our last stop was Venzone, a fortified town with a charming central square. The town was destroyed in an earthquake in 1976 and rebuilt with international aid. The town suffered many casualties but the effort taken to restore it to its former beauty is commendable. Tomorrow we venture to the Dolomites to work off the diet of meat and cheese for breakfast, lunch and dinner. (Pics to follow when we have better internet to download ...

... and forests. The medieval-era Bled Castle stands above the lake on the north shore. The Zaka Valley lies at the west end of the lake.

We took in the panoramic view from Bled's hilltop castle. Walked lake for 2 hours to take photos. Ate HUGE chicken Kabob and shared local cake.

After lunch we had a scenically-winding, mountain-pass drive ...
