A very enjoyable trip from Lake Bracciano. We stopped at Sutri to visit the Amfitheatro and ancient caves. Unfortunately we couldn't visit the old town as it is closed on Mndays! We then visited Anzio and the Wartime Cemetary which was immaculate and a very quite peaceful and honourable place. We stopped for coffee and cake at a beach cafe and couldn't resist the Nutella tart....yum yum!

After 6:15am Mass we got on the bus to go to Monte Cassino. The Abbey for the Benedictines is there. We went up the mountain to the Abbey and had a great tour. The story of the rock is that St. Benedict fell and God made the rock soft so his arm print is there. St. Scholastica liked doves and when she died St. Benedict saw doves. We also ended up carrying quite a few big pine cones that we picked up along the way Fil remembered that Maria Pia always made beautiful decorations at Christmas so we thought we' d bring her some. ... are from around Fondi and nearby Sperlonga where we enjoyed relaxing at the beach, visiting, afternoon aperitivo in the main Piazza, delicious dinners alla Filomena, or on one evening at friends Lucio and Maria Pia, evening passaggiata.. con gelato : ) etc. A very nice way to wind down after all the touring we were doing around Sicily.
Today we visited Pisa! The leaning tower was definitely more impressive than all of us were expecting! We realised the tower was much more leaning than in the pictures, after yesterday's disappointment mummy decided to ore book the tickets for thee tower, we went almost straight in.
