... of control quickly with no way to fight it from land. In just a few minutes the air borne fire fighters arrived with their seaplanes.
They would take on water in the sea then fly a loop to the mountain. Over and over again we watched them take on water as they touch down in the sea just to accelerate and take off again for another lap.
Not much to report today. I spent my last day in the Italian sun swimming and relaxing. La dolce vita! I think we are all ready to go home. We did a lot these past two weeks so I feel like I've been away for a very long time! I love that feeling when I travel; it's a true escape from ordinary life and I always come home with a sense of appreciation. Plus, I am dying for a tall glass of iced tea with an obscene amount of ice! There is so much that I still want to do this ...
... applying tons of sunscreen, I still burned my skin. The sun is so intense out here! I know, champagne problems! We later made our way into town to walk around and have some dinner. While the hotel and beach are gorgeous, the actual town of Gaeta is definitely not as nice. The people we have met, however, have been incredibly friendly. Joe and I argued over the pronunciation of the Australian city of Melbourne (I'm right!) and we had more gelato. ... Capri. It's a similar experience to catching the ferry to Straddie, but the ferry is a fairly serious ship of maybe 10,000 tons...probably carries 40-50 cars and maybe 800 passengers over 3 decks.
The Med always seems to be covered with a quite dense sort of haze, which I suspect might be polution so it spoils the approach/departure a bit for the photographers amongst us....
