    ... my ankle, wrist and derriare before I could get in the van. As a result the next day was declared a washing day. It needed doing because my keks were chasing my socks around the van and threatening them.
    As a result I have lovely clean clothes but didn't get another paddle. There will be other opportunities I'm sure.
    Having time to contemplate I realised I've been in France for nearly 2 weeks and really should crack on, so I trundled steadily ...

    So - after I dried out and thawed from the ride into La Rochelle, the next day I headed South to Royan and decided to catch the ferry across the Gironde.
