We've left Lourmarin with some sorrow, but soon perked up when we got into the Alps. It's been a perfect day, the trees are turning Autumn colours and although it's 26 degrees there's snow on the high tops. Briancon has this amazing fort built to keep the Italians out many years ago. Tomorrow we go over the mountain to Italy toward ...

After an amazing stay in the Le Grand Hotel with the bike safely stored in the garage I set off early with no breakfast or coffee which is unusual. It's fair to say the town of Barcelonnette in France left a good impression on me. An old city but with a vibrance and not too touristy. I was keen to ride the highest road ...

... biking and velo roads in France. "According to positive psychologist Mihály Csíkszentmihályi, what you are experiencing in that moment is known as flow, a state of complete immersion in an activity. He describes the mental state ...

... up. In the morning we assessed our options and elected to head back to Livorno. On the trip back we saw some really wild seas. The overnight rain had eroded the landscape and the run-off down the coastal gullies and drains was significant. The amount of silt / topsoil washed into the sea caused the usually azure blue water to turn a sad murky brown,.. for some 400 - 500 metres out to sea. As we travelled north, we saw numbers of people stopped on the side of the ...
